This months "Promotion Pick of the Month" wasnt chosen because its original (though it is), or because theres a chance for someone to win a million dollars (though there is), or even because its happening at one of the glitzy new megaresorts on the Strip (though it is). What I like about the $1,000,000 Treasures of Venice is that it is one of the few promotions that is almost as much fun to watch as it is to winand I really mean that.
Each evening at the Venetian, through April 23, three tickets will be drawn from a daily drum. The three names selected will participate in a three-minute slot tournament. The two losers will win $50, while the winner gets a choice: $150 or a chance to open 14 chests and win $1,000,000. For every chest successfully opened, the guest will have the option to walk away with the cash they have won before moving on to the next chest.
If this reminds you of the popular primetime game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, its no coincidence. And like the TV show, everyone anywhere near the stage is screaming advice to the finalist. Its quite a show.
According to the inside line, the finalist has a nine-to-one chance of opening the first chest and winning $100, and a fout-to-one chance of opening the second chest and winning $250. After that, the cash awards grow, but the odds shrink. The 13th chest is worth $500,000, while opening the 14th (and final) chest wins the $1,000,000but each of these is a one-in-ten shot. If (or more accurately, when) the finalist does overstep his reach, he receives a consolation prize of $50 to $64,000, depending on how far he got along the Treasure Chest chain.
All new and current Venetian Players Club members automatically receive a free ticket (no play required). Additional entries can be obtained with every 50 clubs points earned. And of course, the chance to yell advice to tonights finalist is free.

Name of Club: Diamond Club
Property: A
The Tropicana, the largest hotel in New Jersey, with over 1,600 rooms, is located on the south end of the Boardwalk, a fair distance from its nearest neighbors, the Atlantic City Hilton and Trump Plaza. Rooms in the west tower are especially nice and convenient to both the casino and the garage. Restaurants include the A. C. Station Steakhouse, Pier 7 (seafood), Seaside Café (coffee shop), Regent Court (steak and seafood), Il Verdi (Italian) and Golden Dynasty (Chinese). There's also a comedy club, a shopping arcade and a private beach area.
Benefits: B
The Diamond Club pays its members same-day cash rebates that can be earned in two different ways. The first is based on a percentage of your total action. As with most Atlantic City slot clubs, the Tropicana does not reveal its cashback percentages, but slot players get about 0.49 percent and video poker players, 0.38 percentamong the lowest percentages in town.
The second way Diamond Club members earn cashback is unique to the Tropicana. On a machine with a FlashCash sign, members earn a 2 percent rebate of the amount bet on each losing spin. If you hit a winning combination, you don't earn any cashback. The card readers on FlashCash machines show the amount of FlashCash you've earned in that session.
The Tropicana also gives away weekly bonus cash. The amount you can collect each week appears in a box on the back of your Diamond Club bimonthly newsletter.
The Diamond Club is generous with free and reduced-rate room offers, which frequently include Friday and Saturday nights. The comp rate, about 1 percent, is competitive. Other benefits of the Diamond Club are free and half-price show tickets, free bingo, coupons for bonus cash or food comps, and access to Diamond Jims, an exclusive players club lounge.
Ease of Use: B
Members can check and collect their cashback and bonus cash directly from the recently installed cash kiosks, which work just like an ATMno need to print cash slips or wait in line at a change booth. Unfortunately, many of the kiosks are poorly located, with few on the main casino floor. Also, members have to see a host or go to the booth to obtain any food comps.
The Tropicana has two boothsone for new members and one for all other transactions. Both (as well as many of the kiosks) are located in the Change Your Life Casino area (see below), which can be quite a walk from the main casino. The main booth is located in the back, and lines are always long. The new members booth is located just a few steps away from the main booth in the Video Poker Parlor; the line here is usually short and moves quickly.
Machine Inventory: B
The Tropicana has the most innovative slot floor in Atlantic City. Besides the large main casino, there are several smaller, specialized gaming areas, including the Change Your Life casino, featuring games with super jackpots like homes and cars; Nickel Heaven, where youll find all the nickel games; the Video Poker Parlor (which has lower-paying machines than the main casino floor); the sports-themed Stadium Club; the Fun House slots area, where you can earn prizes in addition to cashback; and the Crystal Room, for premium slot players.
The Tropicana has a number of old games on their slot floor that should be retired, but the majority of the machines are current. If you want to play machines from WMS Gaming, the Tropicana is the casino for you. As for video poker, the Tropicana no longer has any 9/6 Jacks games in quarters. Youll find dollar 9/6 Jacks in the Game Makers in the Stadium Club, and there are also a few scattered in the main casino. Though you will not see the highest payback machines in the Video Poker Parlor, you will find progressives in more varieties than anywhere else in Atlantic City.
Comments:
The Tropicana is constantly running multiple sweepstakes. Top prizes are usually cash or cars. You earn entries for some sweepstakes through play; the Tropicana mails you entries for other sweepstakes along with the newsletter.
